For many years, Volontariat grew thanks to local and foreign volunteers. But some tasks were managed by employees : dispensary, milk distribution etc. Today the association is a big NGO in Pondicherry. The activities are diversified and numerous: more than 150 employees, a director, programs managers, social workers work in the association. The only permanent volunteers are the President, the Secretary, the treasurer, who control the political line of the association.
So, the association is not based on volounteering anymore. If volounteers still come during the year to visit, the volounteering activity re;ains marginal compared to employees activities.
Thus, welcoming volounteers is important : they witness our action towards the needy and we hope that some of them will help us when they get back to Europe. It the association exists, it is because of the efforts and the perseverance of French and Belgian volounteers.
Here are some rules for volunteers :
- Volunteers who come in Pondicherry should not lead their own humanitarian mission, but should integrate a program
- Volunteers should pay for accommodation, moreover during high seasonal peaks : December to march, July to September, the lengths stay should be limited, to prevent overload of the team.
- Last, but not least, French and Belgian committees also need support to run the activities, do not hesitate to contact them!
